The Brief
This project explored the relationship between future speculation, personal design identity, and architectural research. Through the development of a speculative 2050 scenario, I investigated how emerging social, environmental, political, and technological changes could shape future communities in Western Australia. The project combined future scenario development, analysis of my own Architectural DNA, and targeted solutions research to establish a conceptual foundation for a subsequent architectural proposal. By integrating design fiction, precedent analysis, and critical reflection, the project examined how architecture can respond to complex future challenges while creating meaningful and optimistic ways of living.
My Response
In response to a speculative 2050 future where AI-generated media has replaced shared musical experiences, I designed a live-work sanctuary for musicians in Fremantle dedicated to preserving human-created sound. The project explores how architecture can protect cultural rituals, collaboration and collective memory by creating spaces for making, performing and experiencing music together.
The design is informed by my Architectural DNA, centred around threshold and sequence, protective mass, interior warmth, framed nature, and structured calm. These principles are translated into a series of layered spaces that balance solitude and community, creating a refuge from digital overstimulation while supporting creativity, reflection and social exchange. Through the integration of living, working and performance environments, the project reimagines architecture as a tool for sustaining culture in an increasingly virtual world.
