The Brief
Methods 3A and Design Studio 3A were delivered as a combined semester-long project exploring future ways of living through speculative architectural design. Working within a collaboratively developed future scenario, students were tasked with responding to the question: How will we live?
The project required the development of a detailed architectural proposal supported by research, world-building, environmental strategy, technical resolution, and visual communication. Final outcomes included resolved plans, sections, architectural details, sustainability strategies, and a professional competition-style presentation that communicated a vision for life in 2050.
My Response
In the year 2050 Wes tern Australia has left the federation and has become its own independent state. Rich in minerals and gas, the wealth of the nation flourishes and industrialisation of the country expands all the way from Karratha to Perth. At the forefront of this industrialisation is OmniCorp. A mining company that holds a monopoly on all mineral production and exports in Westralia, this causes them to run the country.
Due to OmniCorp's industrialisation, the natural environment has completely been destroyed. To pay reparations to the people within the city, they construct a self-sustaining artistic sanctuary that restores the relationship between nature and artistic creation for the artists, whose source of inspiration has been erased by Industrialisation.
Hidden in Fremantle the artist retreat is in one of last pockets of natural bush left in the Perth industrial zone. The artists were gifted the studio and saw the only reason OmniCorp had given them this studio was for a PR stunt to make themselves look good to the people of Westralia. The artists saw this as a chance to rebel against OmniCorp’s evil destruction. The community turns to anarchy and makes the artist retreat their canvas.
They become the Anartists.
